[QUOTE="ArrowHead%20nli:276480"]Food for thought: If Darren was doing what he does "for money", do you really think he'd be playing death metal? A full berklee education, Private instruction from Mangini, and a practice regimen that would give my blisters blisters, you think he couldn't pick up a gig with some top 40 band and build up a nice nest egg? Darren is in three bands, all of whom he writes for, puts a shitload of work into, and is very professional about. He's not jumping on for a ride, he's putting all his effort into each project. Yes, if he can pick up a gig here or there recording, playing a show, or programming drums for some money, he's going to do it. The kid has no job, and is 100% dedicated to pushing his playing as far as he can. If a contractor picks up an extra job on the weekend would that make him a bad contractor? How about a cop picking up a detail shift? Darren has yet to dick ANY band he's in over, and he has yet to ditch a band because something bigger and better came along. It gets pretty annoying hearing so many people bash the kid because he has the sheer audacity to be PROUD of what he can do. I think people are just having problems with the idea that someone with his skill is taking a different approach to music than they themselves would. As for BornSoVile's comments, I have never seen Jay with Goratory, but I have both discs. I like the tunes on the new album a lot better, but after seeing Jay play with Compost Pile in Natick it's pretty obvious that BOTH of them are two of the best damned drummers in New England.
